Product Overview

The 2015 Big Basin Homestead Red possesses a beautiful dark red/purple color with an exuberant nose of black and red raspberries, red currants, crushed rocks and hints of crushed flowers and anise. Bright and expressive on the palate with a melange of red and black fruit, mouth coating tannins and a nice long finish. The moderate alcohol level and good acidity make this a great food wine and one that is likely to age exceptionally well, however, it is very approachable.

Varietal Composition: 43 Mourvedre, 16 Syrah, 14 Grenache, 14 Carignane, 13 Cabernet Sauvignon
Appellation: Central Coast AVA (Gabilan and Santa Cruz Mountains)
Aging: 11 months in neutral French oak barrels
Production: 340 cases

93 Points, "Editors' Choice" - Wine Enthusiast
"This blend of 43% Mourvèdre, 16% Syrah, 14% Grenache, 14% Carignane and 13% Cabernet Sauvignon is a great look at what this cult producer is doing, but for much less price than other bottlings. Pure tangy fruit aromas of mulberry and condensed flower petals cut through the rustic earthy and gamy elements on the nose. Vibrant acidity explodes on the palate, which is full of red-currant, cranberry, parsley, sage and lavender flavors." -MK, 8/1/18

92 Points - Vinous
"The 2015 Homestead, Big Basin's Mourvèdre-based blend, is very beautiful. Bright, open-knit and inviting, but with terrific brightness and verve, the Homestead captures the essence of the Big Basin house style. Succulent red cherry, plum, rose petal and lavender are all nicely delineated. In this vintage, the Mourvèdre is higher than normal, but that is not especially evident." -AG, Aug/2017
