Product Description

The 2014 Chateau St. Jean Cinq Cepages, from winemaker Margo Van Staaveren, is always a blend of the 5 red Bordeaux varieties. It opens with aromas of black currant, cassis, violet, and savory tobacco leaves along with secondary aromas of roasted espresso, tea, cinnamon, clove. The palate offers rich, plush flavors of black raspberry and dark chocolate with well-integrated, ripe tannins giving the wine a mouth-pleasing structure and layers of complexity. Approachable, well-balanced, and elegant, this wine can also age for well over a decade.

Varietal Composition: 77 Cabernet Sauvignon, 9 Cabernet Franc, 8 Merlot, 3 Malbec, 3 Petit Verdot
Appellation: Sonoma County

95 Points - Vinous
"The flagship Cinq Cepages is terrific in 2014. Rich, ample and unctuous, the 2014 offers all the richness that is such a signature of this bottling, but with better integration of tannin and finer balance than I can remember seeing in some time. Blackberry jam, grilled herbs, smoke, menthol, lavender and sweet spice all meld together effortlessly. Opulent and dense on the palate, yet not at all overdone, the 2014 is fabulous." -AG, Jul/2018

92 Points - Wine Advocate
"Composed mainly of Cabernet Sauvignon, with dollops of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot (hence the name), the 2014 Cinq Cepages Proprietary Red Wine has a deep garnet-purple color and nose of pure, crushed black currants and blackberries plus hints of garrigue, lavender, chocolate box and wild thyme. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is firmly textured with a solid frame of chewy tannins and great freshness, finishing long and earthy." -LPB, 10/31/17

90 Points - Wine Spectator
"Sleek, rich and focused, dense and complex, with flavors of licorice, dark berry, savory herb and dusty soil. Shows off a gravelly edge to the tannins, making a case for short-term cellaring. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot. Best from 2020 through 2032. 3,873 cases made." -JL, 11/15/17
