Product Description

The 2015 Tablas Creek Esprit de Tablas is a blend of four estate-grown varietals, propagated from budwood cuttings from the Château de Beaucastel estate. The wine is based on the dark red fruit, earth, spice and mid-palate richness of Mourvedre, with additions of Grenache for forward fruit, approachability and lushness, Syrah for mineral, aromatics, and back-palate tannins, and Counoise for brambly spice and acidity. It has an inviting nose of warm berry compote, given complexity by sun-drenched bay leaf and newly turned earth. The mouth is lush and dense, with big but refined tannins, and flavors of licorice, blackberry, and cedar. Mourvedre's characteristic meatiness is in the background at this point, but just waiting for a few years in bottle to emerge. Alternatingly bright and deep on the finish, with lingering flavors of wood smoke, plum skin and spice.

Varietal Composition: 49 Mourvedre, 25 Grenache, 21 Syrah, 5 Counoise
Appellation: Paso Robles AVA, Adelaida District
Aging: 12 months in French oak foudres
The grapes for this wine were grown in the winery's certified organic estate vineyard.

(93-94) Points - Vinous Media
"Deep ruby. Smoke- and spice-tinged red and black fruits, incense and potpourri on the highly perfumed nose. Plush, seamless and expansive on the palate, offering intense raspberry, boysenberry and spicecake flavors and a repeating floral quality. Rich but impressively graceful as well, showing litheness and cut thanks to a core of juicy acidity. Displays superb energy and focus on the very persistent, fruit-driven finish, which is framed and firmed by dusty, slow-building tannins."

(92-94) Points - Jeb Dunnuck
"The 2015 Esprit de Tablas is a juicy, vibrant example of the cuvee. It's the most Mourvèdre dominated example, and this is due to the later flowering varieties being less affected by shatter in the Spring. Black cherries, black raspberries, spring flowers, pepper and hints of earth all emerge from this youthful, medium to full-bodied, juicy wine that's going to need short term cellaring."

90 Points - Wine Advocate
"The 2015 Esprit de Tablas offers up a medium garnet-purple color and nose of dusty earth, moss-covered bark, black tea and charcoal with baked currants and mulberries plus a touch of spice box. Full-bodied, firmly structured and expressive in the mouth, it presents lovely savory and black berry layers with a lingering earthiness on the finish."
