Product Description

The 2013 Woodward Canyon Merlot is sourced from two vineyards: 85 percent from the Weinbau Vineyard located above the Columbia River in central Washington and Woodward Canyon Estate Vineyard (LIVE certified sustainable and Salmon Safe) at the western edge of the Walla Walla Valley. This wine shows beautifully with rich high toned fruit, balanced acidity and great proportion. The Weinbau Vineyard has produced a complex flavor profile of subtle cherry, spice and coffee while the Woodward Canyon property offers more earth. Notes of black cherry, spiced oak, leather and earth are in the aroma. This wine is generous and balanced enough to enjoy now, yet with the complexity and structure to age well for six or more years.

Varietal Composition: 100 percent Merlot
Appellation: Columbia Valley AVA
Aging: 6-8 months in French oak barrels, then bottle aged for further refinement

93 Points, "Editors' Choice" - Wine Enthusiast
"Woodspice and vanillin are out in front on the aromas followed by mocha, raspberry and dark fruit. The palate brings lush, concentrated flavors and a lingering finish. It drinks beautifully now but should have a long life ahead of it."

91 Points - Vinous Media
"Bright, dark red-ruby. Youthful scents of cassis, dark cherry, minerals, bitter chocolate and flowers; I might have picked this blind as Cabernet. At once broad and vinous, offering classically dry flavors of Bing cherry, blackcurrant, tobacco leaf and licorice. Mott sometimes adds a bit of Cabernet to flesh out the middle palate of this Merlot, but not in 2014. Finishes with suave tannins and excellent length but this tight wine is still a baby."

90 Points - Wine Advocate
"The 2013 Merlot has plenty of oak, yet also plenty of fruit, with medium to full-bodied richness and lots of black cherry, leafy herbs, truffle and blackcurrants aromas and flavors. Rich, nicely textured, with ripe tannin and outstanding length, drink it anytime over the coming decade."

90 Points - Wine Spectator
"Mouthcoating tannins underlie a core of tobacco-accented blackberry and mint flavors, pushing through into a long and expressive finish. Best from 2018 through 2021."
