Product Description

The core of the blend in the 2013 Seghesio Cortina Zinfandel comes from the Cortina Vineyard planted in 1972 in Dry Creek Valley. This site is named after the gravelly loam soils prevalent up and down Dry Creek Valley. Due to the prevailing afternoon breezes in Dry Creek Valley, the flavor profile tends towards red fruit. Bright aromas of dark cherry and black raspberry. Upfront fruit appeal supported with underpinnings of complexity and slight white pepper spice. Soft entry develops into warm, full mid-palate. Finish strikes ideal balance of tannins, fruit and acidity.

Varietal Composition: 100 percent Zinfandel
Aging: Aged 13 months in 75 percent French oak (20 percent new) and 25 percent seasoned American oak barrels
Appellation: Dry Creek Valley AVA

94 Points - Wine Spectator
"This captures such a distinct sense of place it almost smells like Dry Creek Valley. Briary raspberry and smoky cinnamon aromas lead to complex, layered flavors of dried sage, licorice and dark cherry. Tannins sneak in on the finish. Drink now through 2024."

94 Points - Wine Advocate
"The 2013 Zinfandel Cortina, which comes from their lowest yielding, dry farmed vineyards, exhibits perhaps the deepest level of fruit intensity, with loads of raspberries, black cherries, some spice, a full-bodied earthiness, moderately high alcohol (as all of these do) at 14.8%, but a long, layered finish. This is probably one of my favorites of this grouping. Drink it over the next 5-7 years."
