Product Description

The 2013 Kaesler Avignon is a Grenache/Mourvedre blend from 84-year-old vines that exudes dark fruits, hints of spice, and pepper. It's supple and elegant in the mouth yet intense and powerful with flavors of spice, ripe blueberry, and blackberry with lighter red fruits such as red currant and plum.

Varietal Composition: 67 Grenache, 33 Mourvedre
Appellation: Barossa Valley, South Australia
Aging: 15 months in 3-5 year old barrels

92 Points - James Halladay (Australian Wine Companion)
"A 67/33% blend fermented separately, 8 days on skins, blended before maturation in used oak. Has retained bright, youthful colour; the wine has freshness, and ample plum and red fruits sustained by fine tannins. For the record, both varieties come from 84yo vines."

91+ Points - Wine Advocate
"Pale to medium garnet colored, the 2013 Avignon Proprietary Red (a blend of 67% Grenache and 33% Mourvèdre) has a black cherry and black raspberry laced nose with cinnamon stick, vanilla and Sichuan pepper hints. Big, ripe, full-bodied and expressive in the mouth, it coats the palate with kirsch and velvety tannins, finishing with great length."
