Product Description

Founded in 2000 by Dominik Huber and South African cult winemaker Eben Sadie, the goal at Terroir al Limit is the fostering of wines of  elegance rather than extraction, and this "village-level" effort speaks to that elegance. The 2013 Terroir al Limit Vie de Vila Torroja is sourced from 50-75 year old vines from vineyards around the village of Torroja which are on the famous llicorella soils that are unique to the Priorat region.  Farmed using biodynamic methods, the grapes are hand harvested and whole-cluster fermented before spending 18 months in concrete and large foudres.

Varietal Composition:
roughly 50/50 blend of Garnacha and Carinena
Appellation: Priorat DO, Spain

93 Points - Wine Advocate
"The village red, 2013 Torroja Vi de Vila, very much reflects the conditions of the wet and late growing season in this blend of Garnacha and Carinena sourced from a diversity of vineyards in the village of Torroja. It is a forward, fruit-driven effort with notes reminiscent of carbonic maceration since like all the reds here it undergoes semi-carbonic maceration. Fermentation was in oak vats with full clusters and indigenous yeasts and the élevage lasted some 18 months in oak foudres crafted in Austria. With time and air it turns more serious opening up lactic hints with tons of red berries and some licorice. The medium-bodied palate has fine, earthy tannins blending a more serious, elegant character with some rusticity. As I find with all the wines from Terroir al Limit, it's not about the grapes, it's about the place. Still, the Garnacha seems to provide the bright red fruit and the Cariñena the earthy rusticity. It gets better and better in the glass. 15,000 bottles produced."

92 Points - Vinous Media

"Aged in concrete tanks and foudres for 18 months. Vivid ruby. A heady, expansive bouquet displays aromas of candied red and dark berries, Asian spices and potpourri, with a minerally accent coming up with air. On the palate, sweet, palate-staining black raspberry and lavender pastille flavors show impressive depth and vivacity, with allspice and cinnamon nuances developing on the back half. The floral and spice qualities echo emphatically on the very long, gently tannic finish."
