April 2017 Wine Club Wines
Claiborne and Churchill 2016 Dry Gewurztraminer - A single vineyard gewurz from Monterey County AVA, bottled on January 18, 2017. Loaded with notes of lychee and hints of citrus. The palate bursts with stone fruit, juicy pear, and a slight tint of grapefruit. Focused acidity adds to a refreshing dry finish. This Gewurstraminer is what the Moscato grape would be if it hit puberty and grew a beard.
Adelaida 2015 Picpoul Blanc - Picpoul Blanc offers ripe, tropical flavors of pineapple and orange citrus backed with honey, baked apple, and toasted bread toward the finish. The rich, creamy mouthfeel is the result of fermentation in neutral oak with full malolactic and daily lees stirring, but mouthwatering acidity provides crisp balance.
C.G Di Arie 2011 Tempranillo - This estate-grown Tempranillo is a blend of 80 percent Tempranillo, 8 percent Petite Sirah, 8 percent Primitivo, and 4 percent Syrah aged 24 months in 100 percent French oak barrels with an additional 2 years of bottle aging before release. It is lush and beautifully textured with highly concentrated dark-berry flavors integrated with tobacco, coffee, and smoky earth.
Deicas 2015 Tannat - Winemaker's Notes: "A blend from four estate vineyards, the Deicas family seeks to find the perfect expression of Tannat from Uruguay, where each micro terroir contributes unique components to the final blend. 40% of the wine is aged in first and second use barrels to enhace the fruit expression. The wine has a deep violet color, intense fig, floral, and mineral aromas, with a juicy palate texture and bright, fresh finish."
Deicas 2015 Mar de Piedras Vineyard Tannat - When you pour this wine into your glass, you’ll know what they mean when a wine’s appearance is described
as inky and “glass staining”. It’ll temporarily stain your teeth purple too. Intense and full bodied on the
palate, it displays ripe blueberry and blackberry fruit with a firm minerality and those obligatory tannins for the necessary structure.
Avennia 2014 Gravura Red Blend - A luscious Bordeaux blend out of Columbia Valley, Washington. 51 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 37 percent Merlot, and 12 percent Cabernet Franc. A very limited production of 775 cases. Voluptuous and complex in style. Leading with aromas of chocolate, ripe cherries, and plum. A hefty palate of mocha, anise, and dark fruit. An extended finish that will progress with a little more bottle age.
