January 2017 Wine Club Wines
Ryan Patrick 2015 Rock Island Chardonnay - This Chardonnay from the Columbia Valley of Washington is elegant and refined. Although it is aged on oak, it is very well balanced. The nose gives off tropical aromas of mango and pineapple. The palate is fresh and clean up front with a hint of oak creeping up on the back end delivering flavors of butterscotch and vanilla. Pair with creamy vegetable soup or clam chowder.
Peter Bernreiter 2015 Viennese Heuriger - This blend from Vienna, Austria is a very unique and exciting wine. Although it is a field blend sourced from different vineyards, its style is very much in the traditional Viennese “Wiener Gemischter Satz” meaning no one variety dominates. The wine is very dry and acidic offering bright aromas of lime and lemongrass. The palate delivers a subtle sweetness with notes of pear and honey crisp apple. Pair with traditional Heuriger food such as Kümmelbraten, Faschierte Laibchen, Fleischknödel, and the classic Wiener Schnitzel.
Trinitas 2012 Old Vine Petite Sirah - "This Petite Sirah from Contra Costa County is rich and decadent. It boasts big aromatics of chocolate, coffee, espresso, huckleberry, violet, and blueberry. Jammy, super-ripe blueberry is the dominant fruit character on the palate with near port-like intensity. Pair with stuffed mushroom casserole."
Paisaje de Barrancas 2013 Red Blend - This blend of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot from Argentina is heavy duty to say the least! The nose is dominated by intense oak aromas of toasted caramel, vanilla, and spice. The palate is smooth and lush providing flavors of dark fruit and cassis alongside big tannins. Pair with dulce de leche ice cream!
Solena Estate 2013 Domaine Danielle Laurent Pinot Noir - This Pinot Noir from the Yamhill-Carlton AVA of Willamette Valley in Oregon is voluptuous and unrestrained. Aromas of leather, mint, and black cherry lead to a refined, elegant palate consisting of earthy notes and soft, velvety tannins. Pair with beef bourguignon.
Alcance 2012 Bravura Bordeaux Blend - This blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petite Verdot from the Maule Valley in Chile is dry and very tannic. The nose is extremely herbaceous with aromas of sage, oregano, and saffron. The palate is reminiscent of juicy black fruit, cassis, and cedar. Pair with gumbo.
