Franziskaner Hefeweisse Dunkel

This Dunkel Hefe-weisse pours brown and very cloudy. Chunks, yes chunks, of yeast from the bottom of the bottle dance up and down in the rising bubbles at the bottom of the glass. A thick, slightly brown, rock head sits on top. The nose is full of yeast bread notes and some suggestions of apples and raisins. The flavor is very sweet with a smooth mouthfeel. There is enough spice and yeasty character to prevent this beer from becoming cloying although it teeters dangerously close.
