While Domaine Chandon is best known as one of America's top sparkling wine houses, they also produce limited quantities of wines from their estate grown vineyards. These wines are craft by drawing on their experience with the traditional champagne varieties. The proximity of the bay moderates the vineyard microclimate with morning and evening fog and afternoon breezes. The cool, exteneded growing season is ideal for Chardonnay providing longer hang time essential for complexity, finesse and intense aromatics and flavor.
The 2005 Carneros Chardonnay opens with inviting aromas of fig, white peach, ginger and orange blossom as flavors of pineapple, Meyer lemon zest and vanilla bean grace the palate. With creamy texture and a lingering finish of citrus and pears, this wine showcases the Carneros region. A light touch of oak combined with balanced acidity accentuate the complexity of this Chardonnay.

Winemaker James Kress suggests serving the Carneros Chardonnay with steamed lobster accompaniesd by a pineapple beurre blanc or for a lighter fare, a butter lettuce ssalad topped with mandarin orange slices. For dessert, try it with a vanilla cream brûlée.
