One of the oldest winemaking firms in the world, Antinori first commenced producing wines in Tuscany and Florence in 1385. The majority of the Antinori vineyards are located in Chianti Classico. With the passage of the 1984 DOCG laws, Chianti Classico grapes became so complex and rich, that they needed more ageing than the fruity fresh Santa Cristina could bare, to maintain it's style and character. Santa Cristina moved away from the Chianti Classico designation, by adding a portion of 10% Merlot to the Sangiovese.
