The whisky is a rich walnut color with slow, thick legs. The nose shows off classic Macallan amontillado notes, with hints of salt and a kiss of heather. Luscious on the palate, the texture is rich and mouth-coating. There?s a red fruit note that leads the palate, before the Amontillado kicks in, carrying a lot of nuttiness. Barely sugar sweetness comes up on the second half, a slight note of anise, before going into a spicy, peppery and warming finish. Much less linear than the distillery bottling, and fascinating.
